I've been reading about five second audio ads playing when some sites load.

Do you think people would be tolerant of them, in the same way they've more or less accepted ads on radio and TV?

This could run into a few problems:

Say you have an ad that plays audio on every page, and you get a few hundred or thousand people coming to your site. That is 5 second clips playing over and over again, may crash your system, and you might have to restart. Only way I would even advise this is if you were to buy an awesome host, or run it from your own computer. I don't know too much when it comes to audio ads, but I do know what it's like playing audio a lot in a server [I PLAY COUNTER STRIKE] and its shut our servers down a few times.

So if you do, proceed with caution.

I honestly HATE audio ads...and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one. I don't quite mind sites that give you the option of clicking on play. But I can't stand the ones that play as soon as you enter the site. Many times their voices are strong and their energy is high and all it does is shock the cr*p out of me.

Also, sometimes I have a lot of window on so the audio's buffering gets in the way (it doesn't play smoothly). Many times I feel it's just bad advertising especially when there's no warning of an audio coming on. So almost all the time, I just close the browser window.

I'm a tolerant individual. If I can't tolerate audio ads (with autoplay), I'm positive many people don't tolerate them at all.

All I see is problems when I think about these. One thing is that a some people like me keep their speakers off unless listening to something, so not every visitor would hear the ads. Another thing is that if I do have my speakers on I sure as hell don't want to be bombarded with audio ads every time I reload a page. That is something that will cause me to stop using a website completely.
