PayPal Charges?

Postby Ricardo on Thu Apr 03, 2008 11:44 am

Yesterday I saw a discussion of PayPal charges where someone said they always get charged for receiving a PayPal payment. I believe this person had a business or professional account.

I have a basic account, but I've never been aware of a charge. I wait till the balance is at least $150 before withdrawing.

Does anyone here know about the charges this person was talking about?

Fees are given to anyone with a premier or business account. They really get annoying after a while. The fee is equal to 2.9% + $0.30 USD.

Yes, for those that do a lot of business with Paypal, they do charge you the fees to receive payments. The people who can get away with staying with a personal account are lucky in this respect. The fees are quite high sometimes on big amounts.

To be honest, for what paypal provide the fees are perfectly reasonable. I do however avoid low level transactions, or i build the paypal fees into my price, because they can be an annoyance :)

Yes Paypal fees are annoying, but they have their reasons too. They provide pretty good service, and for that, they do reserve the right to charge a small fee. But the main thing is, unlike other places, they have no hidden fees!

As far as I am aware paypal dont charge unless it is a business account then charges will occur. In some cases if it is a large amount of money then they will charge.

Premium and Business accounts get charged for transfers over a certain amount. There's a few things to consider with PayPal. Yes, they do deserve to take a fee because otherwise the amazing service would be free, and they do such a great job. However, what most people don't realize is that PayPal makes it's money not through fee's but through interest. Imagine all the money stored in all PayPal accounts, it's still real money. And where does real money live? In a real bank account, PayPal store and transfer your money in their bank account. So all the money tide up in PayPal is giving them interest, which is a hell of a lot of money! Only when you transfer your PayPal funds to your bank account does PayPal stop making interest of it...

So in my opinion, they are a little greedy asking for fee's too. But it's very clever, I'll give them that.
