The Best Domain Deal You've Had?

Postby Drizzle on Wed Apr 02, 2008 8:54 am

Have you ever bought a domain from a reseller that you feel was an absolute steal? I feel I have! :D

A few weeks after the LLLL.com buyout, there was a hype so I decided to get into buying a few. I saw one that was semi-pronounceable & in my budget range so I bought it. It was only after I bought it that I found:

1 - a thread where the seller gave a discount on the domain name (but he sold it to me without the discount :( ) which is against the rule actually but I've allowed him to get away with this.
2 - a thread where the seller was trying to figure out what he could do with the name (on another thread).

After trying to figure out what I could do with it, I noticed it actually had the letters W A H in this respective order. W A H can stand for Work At Home (which has millions of search results).

I do feel bad that someone would go as being unethical by not telling me about the discount he had, but I guess that's just business. The good thing is that 4L.com prices have surged so if I sell the name even today I'll no doubt make a profit. I'm going to hold it for as long as I can though.

I've had several other great 4L.com deals. :) This time I'm careful about the sellers' multiple threads!

I'm more of a seller than a buyer, i buy @ reg fee and sell for around 100% profit.

Myself, as a seller, I've made a couple of okay sales. For example i bought geek.sc and real-estate.sc for $5 and managed to sell for $20 a couple of weeks later. I also managed to reg syzo.net and 2 or 3 days later, sold for $18 :D

I don't have the capital, and doubt i ever will, to buy domains for a couple of hundred $ and then wait a few years and sell for $xxxx. I'd love to be able to buy into the LLL.net market, but again, money is my limit :(

Take into consideration I am a poor domainer. I first came into domaining when LLLL.com's where about $15 - $20 each. I saw that they would probably have some potential so I ended up buying 5 of them at $20 each, which was the most I could afford. I ended up selling one for $50 and bought another at $36. Another decent sale I made was when I bought Ultimate-Proxy.com for $15 and about a week later sold it for $70.

I love domains like that, ones that sellers can't see a value in, so you buy and then suddenly you get interest. That happened with my domains geek.sc and real-estate.sc. Won at an auction for $5 for the pair then a few weeks later got $20 for them. I've had it happen with a few domains, buy because they're cheap then sell them at a profit. It's great when people come along a day after you've bought a domain and offer a lot for it, when they could have been a day earlier and got it for half the price :D

At this point, any LLLL.com bought for $40 or below would be considered a good deal for me. As for buying a domain worth more than a hundred dollars...I don't have the budget either but I'd sell a few bad LLLL.coms I have for one good LLLL.com. I intend to do that in the following months. The good LLLL.coms' prices are increasing rapidly, compared to the LLLL.coms with the 'bad' letter combinations.

I just bought 3 domain names from Digital Point for 16 dollars. All of the domains were seven years and older. They had no Page rank but for the age of the domains I could not resist. Not only that but they were good keyword domains as well. I am now using one of them for a new project I am working on.
